Robet Kelly, a long time Full Moon Poet passed away a week ago Thursday. I expected to see him at the La Paloma Poetry Slam on the 11th of Sept but got the sad news instead. Robert was a regular at the monthly Full Moon poetry circle for years while the Artists' Colony had a home.

I heard this morning that we lost our beloved Maggie Houlihan last night. She was a friend to the artists and poets of Encinitas. Her spirited support for us will long be remembered. When I heard the news about Maggie, I thought of Robert's poem:

"Different Drummer "

Where does a song go
After its notes have faded away
Where does a soul go
After its host has returned to clay
Does not the gentle wind
Give wings to the song and the soul
And lifts them up to lofty heights
As the bell begins to toll
For is not the gentle wind
Keeper of the spirit and the soul
Which are held together by the song
'Til time to play another role........

ABOUT FULL MOON POETS
Full Moon Poets was founded in 2000 by Danny Salzhandler, a local artist in Encinitas, California.  His vision was to have a gathering of local poets meet once a month in an informal setting to read poetry.

His dream was realized and Full Moon Poets, in conjunction with 101 Artists' Colony produces 2  poetry slams per year at the La Paloma Theatre, attracting poets from across the country, and standing room only crowds of 400 people. Volunteers are always needed to help sign in poets and scorekeeping. The event is free, but the popcorn bucket is passed around to collect prize money for the winning poets. Rent for the La Paloma is typically paid by donations from the Full Moon Poets, 101 Artists' Colony, and solicitations from local businesses and merchants.
